EDWARD LEAR 1812-88

No.7

Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, Sunrise (1859)

Lear was an English artist, illustrator, musician, author and poet, and is known now mostly for his literary nonsense in poetry and prose and especially his limericks, a form he popularised. As a draughtsman, he was employed to illustrate birds and animals. He also composed twelve musical settings of Alfred Tennyson's poetry.
