EDWARD JOHN GREGORY 1851-1909

No.3
Boulter's Lock, Sunday Afternoon (1885)

Boulter's Lock is on the river Thames, west of London, near Maidenhead. It was built to make the further reaches of the river accessible to boats. This was a very popular place for boating parties towards the end of the 19th century. Born in Southampton, Gregory was grandson of John Gregory, engineer-in-chief of the auxiliary engines in Sir John Franklin's last Arctic expedition.
